AFTER-HOURS EMERGENCY REPAIRS
he OU Police Department dispatcher will contact the appropriate Physical Plant unit or other repair agency for storm damage and any other repairs of an urgent nature occurring after regular hours which cannot be delayed until the next working day. To request essential after-hours repairs, call 325-2864.
EMERGENCY MEDICAL ASSISTANCE
University Police Officers will respond to medical emergencies, including injuries and sudden illness, occurring on the Norman campus. Depending upon the responding officer's assessment of the patient's condition, the University Police may provide field treatment ("first aid") or may summon more qualified emergency medical personnel from the local EMS provider. University Police medical services are free of charge; should the circumstances necessitate the use of other resources, a charge from the provider may apply. To obtain emergency medical assistance, call the EMERGENCY NUMBER (9-1-1).
Other regular and after-hours OU Norman Campus, off-campus (Norman area), OKC metro-area, and national emergency numbers and crisis hotlines are available from OUPD online at http://www.ou.edu/oupd/emerphon.htm.
MOTORIST ASSISTANCE
The University Police will assist motorists stranded by mechanical failure or other problems with their vehicle on University property in Norman by providing battery jump-starts or help in obtaining commercial repair services. Because Police Officers must remain available for response to emergency calls, they are prohibited from pushing other vehicles with their patrol vehicle or by hand and from performing any type of mechanical repairs to other vehicles. The provision of motorist assistance may be curtailed in severely inclement weather or periods of extreme cold. Requesters of assistance must sign a waiver form before services can be provided. Assistance may be requested by calling 5-2864 or from any campus Emergency Telephone.

ANIMALS IN UNIVERSITY BUILDINGS AND ON UNIVERSITY PROPERTY
 -
Dogs, cats and other live pets will not be permitted in University buildings, including housing and property leased by the University, with the exception of service animals and animals that are used for bona fide research.
- All animals on University property must be kept on a leash or under the immediate supervision and control of the owner by some other restraining device.
- All dogs must be vaccinated in accordance with Chapter 3 of the Code of the City of Norman (as amended by Ordinance No. 2384). Each dog must be provided with a collar to which the vaccination tag must be affixed, and the dog's owner shall see that the collar and tag are continually worn.
- The presence of stray dogs on campus will be controlled through an agreement with the City of Norman by which Norman Animal Control Officers may apprehend stray animals on University property and hold them in the City Pound until claimed by the true owner or disposed of after a reasonable amount of time. In the event that stray animals are not claimed within a reasonable time, the University will pay the pick up charges and room and board at the established rate. Details of the apprehension and confinement will be worked out between the University administration and the Norman City Manager.
The policy regarding pets in University housing will be enforced by University Housing and Food Services and the OU Police Department. When a complaint about a pet is received, the Department of University Housing and Food Services will substantiate the complaint and give the tenant a suitable amount of time to make arrangements to have the pet cared for elsewhere. If the request is not honored or if University Housing and Food Services has reason to believe the tenant is not acting in good faith, this information will be given to the Director of University Housing and Food Services. Administrative action will be taken to enforce the policy, including possible removal of a tenant from University housing.
The Regents also authorized the President of the University, or his designee, to enter into an agreement with the City of Norman to enforce that portion of the policy relating to the apprehension of stray animals (paragraph 4 above). (RM 1-20-72, pp. 11297-99; 3-29-00, p. 26909).
ANIMAL CONTROL
Stray, vicious or injured/sick animals should be reported to the University Police at 325-2864. The University Police will take appropriate action to remedy the situation.
