CONGRESSIONAL BILL NO. 670xxx

Title: A RESOLUTION RECOMMENDING THE ELECTRONIC POSTING OF FACULTY OFFICE HOURS.

Whereas: Often times, a student needs to directly contact a professor, faculty advisor, director, or some other administrative position with whom they do not have a class; and,

Whereas: Within each department, the office hours of each faculty member are stored on hard-copy, but this office is only open during normal business hours, during which students are not necessarily always available; and,

Whereas: There are many times when a student may need to contact their professor for a class and not have direct access to their records of when that professor holds office hours; and,

Whereas: The accessibility of the faculty would be drastically increased if their office hours were posted in a convenient location for all students to easily check.

LET IT THEREFORE BE RESOLVED THAT:

Section 1: The University of Oklahoma Student Association Undergraduate Student Congress recommends that on each departmental web page they create an office hour link that simply lists the faculty and their office hours each semester.

Section 2: This page would be maintained at the departmental level and updated each semester, just as the hard copy is currently maintained. Information about office hours and other pertinent information would also be maintained on Coursenet.

Title: A RESOLUTION RECOMMENDING THE REGULAR UPDATE OF FACULTY WEBPAGES.

Whereas: All faculty have a web page available to them upon which they can store class and educational information; and,

Whereas: Many of these pages are either unused or the information contained within them is many years old; and,

Whereas: These web pages are used by students around the university as well as those considering studying at our university to find information about faculty and the classes they teach; and,

Whereas: Consistently updating course and office hour information on a set web page would require little time constraints.

LET IT THEREFORE BE RESOLVED THAT:

Section 1: The University of Oklahoma Student Association Undergraduate Student Congress recommends that the departments within each college request that all faculty activate and maintain the course and office hour information on their web pages in order to be more accessible to all students.

Section 2: The University of Oklahoma Student Association Undergraduate Student Congress recommends that the departments within each college also request that faculty research and educational information be made available for the benefit of students and recruits to find professors with whom they might like to study.
