Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club Members and Guests:

On Behalf of the staff at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club, we want to welcome you to our new website and very first newsletter. There has been a lot happening here over the past several months as we prepare to reopen the golf course. The main reason for the changes is our commitment to provide the OU golf teams, our members, and our university students, faculty, and staff quality products, a quality golf course, and a level of service that you would expect from the best of clubs.

Since closing in mid August, all 18 greens, the putting green, and the nursery have been resurfaced with an A1/A4 bent grass that is considered an aggressive bent, more resilient to Poannua. There have been seven (7) new back tees added making the back tees stretch out to over 7400 yards and increased the course rating to 76.1. However, making the course more difficult is not our objective. The objective is to improve the course by making it more enjoyable for all players. Therefore, this winter we will be adding five new front tees shortening its distance to 5100 yards. So while the OU men’s golf team need and want increased challenges to better prepare them to win big 12 Championships, our new player, senior player, junior player, and some lady players will further enjoy the course from the 5100 yard tees. With five sets of tees ranging from over 7400 yards down to 5100, we are sure that all skill sets are accommodated. Also, all 83 bunkers are also being fully renovated back to the original design with sand in the face of the bunkers instead of grass. New sand is also being put in the fairway and green side bunkers.

Other things taking place include tree maintenance, creek maintenance, landscaping, irrigation heads added, a lot of new sod placed around greens and other key locations, new target green on the practice area, and preparation for a new short game practice facility.

It has been busy around here and a lot of fun. On a personal note, I want to thank the Members, the University Faculty & Staff, OU Teams, Club Staff, and every other customer for your welcoming me and my family to The Great State of Oklahoma, Norman, and the University family. The Jimmie Austin golf course is an exceptional golf course moving in the right direction and I feel very fortunate to be a part of the team leading the already successful course to even greater achievements.

The golf shop, clubhouse grill, putting green are open and the course reopens to limited play on November 9th. We are really looking forward to seeing each of you at the golf course.
