COVID-19 Admissions Updates

Due to growing concerns about the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we have made the difficult decision to cancel all campus tours and events through July 31. At this point, we hope to resume campus tours beginning in August. Our public health experts will continue to closely monitor the situation, and we will provide updates as available on our website and on our social media pages (@go2ou). More updates and resources from the University of Oklahoma can also be found at ou.edu/coronavirus.

FALL 2020 ADMITTED STUDENTS

The OU Office of Admissions and Recruitment will still process applications as normal. We do not expect any delays in returning admissions decisions at this time. However, we are unable to mail admissions boxes at this time, so you will first learn of your decision electronically. You will still receive a box at a later date.

All campus tours and events through July 31 are canceled. At this point, we hope to resume campus tours beginning in August.

In the meantime, you can sign up for a live admissions information session webinar to hear from an OU admissions counselor about academic programs, involvement opportunities, the admissions process, and more. These sessions are held daily at 2 p.m. CT, and attendees are encouraged to ask questions throughout the presentation.

Additionally, we encourage you to check out our OU Virtual Tour and explore some of the same great spaces that you would have seen on campus. You can also virtually follow OU tour guide, Ryleigh, as she shows you a preview of the University of Oklahoma campus.

Register for a virtual meeting with an OU admissions counselor to have a personal conversation about your path to becoming a member of the OU Family. Time slots are available on weekdays between 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. CT.

ADMITTED FRESHMEN

The deadline to submit your enrollment commitment and secure a spot in the incoming freshman class has been extended to June 1.

The University of Oklahoma recognizes the hard work students have already completed in their AP courses. In response to COVID-19, the College Board has made modifications to 2020 AP Exams. In order to support our students and their plans for AP credit, OU will continue to award and honor credit based on previous evaluations.

The Start Sooner program is transitioning to a modified version of the program that will allow students to continue their coursework online with guidance and insight from the Start Sooner staff. All classes will be held virtually. Students will take a University College Foundations to College Learning course via Zoom and an additional online course of their choosing.

The Start Sooner dates will still run from July 5-30, 2020. The price will include tuition and fees for 6 credit hours of class and a program fee of $50. Our program staff is dedicated to providing mentorship, orientation, academic support, and social opportunities all virtually. Payment for students who have already registered will not be due until July. Please contact startsooner@ou.edu or 405-550-3659 if you have any questions. You can also visit our website here. If you are interested in using your summer to get college credit and start your OU experience early, you can register today on our website to start taking classes online in July with Start Sooner!

We will allow for retesting on standardized exams through July 31 instead of the original deadline of April 30.

All New Sooner Orientation sessions are moving online for summer 2020.

If you have NOT scheduled your New Sooner Orientation Day, please do so as soon as possible. You can register for your online NSO by logging in to oubound.ou.edu.

If you have already scheduled your New Sooner Orientation Day, you will remain registered for that day, but it will be online instead of in person. You will receive a new confirmation email with details about the day!

You will still have the opportunity to meet an academic advisor, enroll in fall courses, and learn about everything you will need to know before attending OU. Parents and families are still encouraged to attend programming virtually with their students.

A schedule of the day will be sent to your OU email before your New Sooner Orientation Day so you can be prepared to log in and attend your orientation from home. Be sure to complete all of the necessary steps before your Orientation Day.

As OU’s premier orientation camp, we are working hard to create programming where you can still meet other students in the incoming class, become familiar with campus, and learn about resources available at OU.

We are looking to create a program that utilizes online methods during the summer and in-person activities and events during August. We are excited to offer the online programming at no cost. We look forward to sharing more information and a registration link with you once plans are confirmed.

If you have already registered for Camp Crimson, we’re sorry to have to change your plans, but we will be in touch soon. No payment has been charged and you will NOT see any Camp Crimson fee on your Bursar account.

Updates to your housing contract are due June 1.

Student health and safety are OU's top priority right now. On top of routine cleaning, OU has amplified cleaning and disinfecting practices across campus to add an extra layer of protection against COVID-19, including in high-use areas like the residence halls. Housing Operations is cleaning with disinfectant throughout all areas and touch points at least four times a day. All surfaces and keyboards in computer labs are sanitized continuously throughout the day.

No, it will not be rescheduled, but Fraternity and Sorority Programs and Services (FSPS) is looking into offering virtual programming over the summer. If this becomes available, more details will be posted on FSPS' website and social media. Students can email fsps@ou.edu, call (405) 325-3163, or check out the Fraternity and Sorority Programs and Services website if they have any questions.

After careful deliberation, our intention is to return to in-person educational operations on all three campuses by this fall, offering traditional instruction and residential life. We are doing everything we can to make that realistic and safe. We are acutely aware of the certain challenges COVID-19 will present as we pursue this goal and are planning to address the issues proactively and creatively. We are prepared to adapt instructional and housing models as appropriate to protect our community and still offer the life-changing in-person OU experience. Flexibility will be a guiding principle as we navigate the coming months, and we will ensure that our students, faculty, and staff are presented with appropriate options to return to our campuses, keeping their safety top of mind.
