“I’m so grateful for the time I spent at OU because it opened my eyes to a big world, and now I get to explore the world every day with my career and my life in Washington, D.C. I hope you come join our family and love OU as much as I do. “
I hope you’re almost ready to say “Yes!” to joining our family at the University of Oklahoma! I remember when I was in your same position in high school; I was a senior at Booker T. Washington in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and I had questions about where I wanted to go for college. Fast forward to today, and I can easily say that the best decision I made was to become a Sooner. I now work at National Geographic and I thank OU for giving me the keys to success for these five reasons:
I learned how to be a leader. I joined campus organizations that taught me how to manage large groups of people and oversee big programs, which instilled great confidence in me.
I met my best friends in various campus groups, my sorority, classes, and my freshman residence hall. My suitemates remain my lifelong friends, and the girl who lived across the hall from me is still one of my best friends to this day.
I received the greatest support from OU staff and professors. They want you to be as successful as you can be at school and beyond. They are your biggest cheerleaders and fans.
OU welcomed me with open arms. It was scary to move away from home, and it was hard to say goodbye to my family. OU quickly became my home away from home, especially with the special welcome events for freshmen and ongoing opportunities to meet new people just like you.
OU provides opportunities to go and see the world. I took a semester to do a journalism internship program at Vogue magazine in NYC, and now I oversee the travel storytelling team for digital platforms at National Geographic where we travel and tell stories about amazing places and cultures in the world.
I’m so grateful for the time I spent at OU because it opened my eyes to a big world, and now I get to explore the world every day with my career and my life in Washington, D.C. I hope you join our family and love OU as much as I do.
