All About Art: The 98th Annual School of Art & Art History Student Exhibition has returned to the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art and highlights the diverse works of art created by OU art and art history students. While you’re at the museum, don’t forget to view the sculpture Vénus à la Coquille I by Henri Matisse, which is on temporary loan through Feb. 14. Glowing Research

OU Professor Douglas Gaffin, who also is dean of University College, led a research group in unraveling the mystery of why scorpions evolved to glow bright green under ultraviolet light. The study was published in the journal Animal Behavior. Click here to read more.

 

Healthy Futures:

The Healthy Women, Healthy Futures program, run by the OU College of Nursing, graduated its first set of participants, who take classes on nutrition, learn about available health resources, and receive information on family planning. Miguel Terekhov:

Miguel Terekhov, a dancer with the two leading Ballets Russes troupes and a co-founder of the OU School of Dance, died on Jan. 3. (This article first appeared in the Jan. 7 issue of The Norman Transcript, by Transcript staff) Click here for more.

 

Walter Helmerich III:

OU alumnus Walter Helmerich III, a Tulsa oilman, civic leader and philanthropist, died Jan. 10. He was 88. Helmerich, together with his wife of 60 years, Peggy, contributed gifts to areas important to both of them, supporting libraries, the Peggy Dow Helmerich School of Drama and scholarships, among other areas.   He also was a founder of the OU President’s Associates program.
