The Department of Anthropology at OU offers a broad education in anthropology on both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Curriculum is based on the traditional four-field approach in archaeology, sociocultural anthropology, biological anthropology, and linguistics. The Graduate Program in anthropology offers Master's degrees and doctoral degrees in all four fields.

The department has now grown to include twenty-two full-time faculty members. Our Native American Language Program focuses on instruction in five different languages: Cherokee, Cheyenne, Choctaw, Creek, and Kiowa. There are eleven instructors currently involved in the Native American Language Program.
