Patrick Livingood
Assistant Professor (Ph.D. University of Michigan, 2006)

Current Research Projects:

  • Mississippian regional interactions.  I am especially interested in the region of the Gulf Coastal Plain between the Lower Mississippi Valley and the Black Warrior River.  This research looks at the interaction of large and small polities and the effects of travel time on political organization.
  • Digital technology approaches to ceramic technology.  Following up on other research, I am attempting to apply high-speed, high-tech solutions to analyzing ceramic temper.
  • Caddoan Archaeology.  This summer I will be starting fieldwork with Scott Hammerstedt and Amanda Regnier of the Oklahoma Archaeological Survey in Eastern Oklahoma.

New Book: Plaquemine Archaeology, edited by Mark Rees and Patrick Livingood, University of Alabama Press, 2007.
