ONLY THREE MORE WEEKS FOR AWARD APPLICATIONS AND NOMINATIONS
What projects have you been pouring your energy into this past year? Who
stands out as a truly exemplary leader among information resources
professionals? Each year EDUCAUSE brings well-deserved recognition to
individuals and higher education institutions for outstanding
achievements through its award programs. March 1 is the deadline for
three competitions -- for excellence in campus networking, best
practices in information resources management, and individual leadership
achievement. Details and application or nomination forms are available
through the Web at: http://www.educause.edu/awards/awards.html
EDUCAUSE '99 CALL FOR PROPOSALS
The deadline for proposals for pre-conference seminars at EDUCAUSE '99
is quickly approaching. Proposals are also currently being accepted for
general conference presentations. The annual conference is in Long
Beach, California, October 26-29. Pre-conference seminar proposals are
due February 26, and the general-call proposals are due March 15. You
can submit your proposals electronically through the EDUCAUSE Web site
at: http://www.educause.edu/conference/e99/
DISCUSSION BEGINS ON SOFTWARE LICENSING
One of the EDUCAUSE constituent groups is about to begin a focused
e-mail discussion on software licensing, paying particular attention to
specific vendors. Group leader Larry Rapagnani (University of Notre
Dame) hopes to include a wide variety of colleges and universities in
the talks. Minutes of the group's meeting at CAUSE98 in Seattle last
December are on the EDUCAUSE Web site, along with information about how
to subscribe to the Software Licensing and other constituent group
lists. http://www.educause.edu/memdir/cg/licensing.html
SHARE YOUR Y2K PLANS
Has your institution developed a business continuity plan to address the
Year 2000 challenges, not only with respect to systems solutions but
also from the broader campus community perspective? If so, please
briefly describe your activities in this area (including URLs for
relevant Web pages or documents your institution has developed), and
send your response to Elizabeth Harris (eharris@educause.edu) by
February 15. We'll share your response in our next issue of CAUSE/EFFECT
journal.
