Robert L. Brooks

After more than 30 years at the Survey, Bob has retired but will continue working on archeological projects begun during his long tenure.

Originally from Ohio, Bob is the State Archaeologist and part-time Assistant Professor in Anthropology and has been with the Archeological Survey since 1981.

Research Interests

Eastern U.S. and Plains prehistory, ethnoarchaeology, sedentary societies, archaeological theory, geographic and economic models, resource management, public education, Plains and Southeastern Indians, NAGPRA consultation.

Other facts

Bob is the past President of the National Association of State Archaeologists and State Network Coordinator of the Committee on Public Education, Society for American Archaeology. He also works on a variety of issues concerning resource management and protection of places of traditional value to Native American people in Oklahoma.
