Introduction

You will receive a lot of email for this course, and all of the email that goes to the whole class at once will automatically go to your OU email address. So be sure you regularly check your OU email or have it forwarded to an email address you regularly check.

Email Confirmation Assignment

Around the first day of classes, I will send you an email that includes the following message. Your assignment is to REPLY to this email, and then record your gradebook declaration at Desire2Learn.

If you received this email, you are enrolled in Contemporary Issues in Biology.

Please reply to this email, and answer all of the following questions:

  • What is your full name?
  • What name do you PREFER to go by? Many students use a nickname, or use their middle name - please let me know what you prefer! (You will give this same information to the rest of the class during the discussion board orientation activity).
  • What is your major and year in school?
  • Do you anticipate any problems with internet access -- or anything else that makes you nervous about taking an online class?

(The email will also include some other information about the orientation for the course).

After you have replied to the email, make a declaration in D2L that you have completed this assignment. Login to Desire2Learn then click on the Declarations link in the class navigation. Find the "Email Confirmation" declaration and submit it.

(Your Gradebook Declaration is subject to the Honor Code.)

Here is the text of the Desire2Learn Gradebook Declaration:

(2 points) I have received the email sent to me by the instructor, and I have sent back a reply to that email, answering the questions asked.
