Building Safety Coordinator Program

The OU Building & Safety Coordinator (BSC) Program is an effort by the University of Oklahoma to help ensure the safety of people and buildings and provide knowledgeable people in every campus building who know what actions to take during an emergency and who can assist those around them.

Who is a Building Safety Coordinator

A Building & Safety Coordinator (BSC), is intended to assist with coordinating emergency response, safety, and building issues between service departments and occupants within their building.  BSCs do not need to have specific subject expertise but must be able to serve as a facilitator between their building and service departments such as Facilities Management, Department of Campus Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Information Technology Services, OUPD, etc.  Additionally, BSCs act as the primary Point of Contact for OU Department of Campus Safety for the entire building or department/floor. BSCs should make a reasonable attempt to guide employees and students to follow the building’s Emergency Response Plan; however, people who choose not to cooperate should not be forced.
