What is Co-op?
- Cooperative Education (CO-OP) provides
you with the opportunity to work in positions related
to your major field of study, allowing you to gain valuable
professional experience while enhancing your academic
career.

You will work in one or more of the
following plans:
- Alternating:
Alternate periods of work with periods of study.
- Parallel: Work and attend
college simultaneously on a part-time basis.
- Summer: Work only during
two or more summer periods.
What are the qualifications to
participate in a co-op?

Must have a current HIREsooner page with Career Services.

Must have at least an overall GPA
of 2.00.

Must be in good academic standing
with the University of Oklahoma.

Must be in good academic standing
with your college and academic department.

Must be currently enrolled at the
University of Oklahoma.

If you are an undergraduate, you
must have completed at least 12 hours at the University
of Oklahoma.

If you are a graduate student, you
must have completed at least 9 hours at the University
of Oklahoma.

If you are an international student,
you must obtain permission to participate from the Office
of International Exchange Programs. For further information
see "Application Packet for Cooperative Education
Program."
How is a position evaluated to
see if it is a co-op?
Prospective co-op opportunities
must be evaluated by the Internship/Co-op Coordinator according to following criteria:

The work experience must be related
to the student’s field of study or individual
career interest and should enhance the educational experience.

Position must be established as a
co-op position with the organization. The employment
must be considered to be regular, continuing (at
least two semesters), and essential to the
organization with some predetermined amount of employment
and standards of performance.

Must be in good academic standing
with your college and academic department.

The work experience will ideally increase
in difficulty and responsibility as the student progresses
through the academic curriculum.

The position must be a paid position.

Employer must agree to evaluate
co-op student’s performance at the end of each
work rotation.

Work hours must be no less than
40 hours for an alternating co-op and no less than 20
hours for a parallel co-op.
