The Archeological Survey's educational efforts are distributed along two lines. The first is in providing supplemental classes to students at the University of Oklahoma. The second is to primary and secondary schools around the state as well as civic groups. The Survey also works closely with the Oklahoma Anthropological Society on avocational programs.

University of Oklahoma and Higher Education in Archeology

A number of staff at the Survey are involved in teaching classes at the University of Oklahoma. These courses are offered through the Department of Anthropology and include: Oklahoma Prehistory , Faunal Analysis, Lithic Technology, Sedentary Societies, Prehistory of the Caddoan Language Speaking People, Pleistocene and Early Holocene Environments, and Public Archaeology. Other lectures and portions of classes are frequently taught at other schools including Oklahoma State University and the University of Central Oklahoma.

Survey staff also serve on committees for masters and Ph.D. students. The Survey provides funding support to graduate students and undergraduates and provides field and laboratory training opportunities.

Primary and Secondary Schools

The Archeological Survey has developed a number of programs for the public schools. One of these, Diaries in the Dirt, developed in the conjunction with the Oklahoma Museum of Natural History can be obtained on loan from OMNH for a number of weeks. Contact the museum at (405) 325-4712 regarding use of this program. Another program, Oklahoma's First General Store, is presented to classes by the Survey professional staff.
