OKLAHOMA ANTHROPOLOGICAL SOCIETY SPRING DIG AT FORT GIBSON

MAY 23 to JUNE 1, 2008

Lee Bement, Archeologist in Charge of the dig, and Dale McHard, Dig Committee Chairman

The dig will be held May 23 to June 1, 2008 at the Fort Gibson National Site. The Archeologist in charge is Leland Bement. The excavations will be for the purpose of discovering artifacts related to the occupation of the Fort from its beginning in 1824 and for the discovery and further identification of the stockade and picket foundations at the Fort.

A certification seminar on the subject of excavation techniques is scheduled to be held on the Fort grounds on Saturday, May 24, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and lasting until about 3:00 p.m. There will be a small fee charged for attending this class.

The site is located on highway OK 80 about three blocks north of downtown Ft. Gibson.

It would be helpful to receive your pre-registration information with the dates on which you plan to attend as early as possible to assist us in the scheduling of evening events. There is a $10.00 registration fee for one person or a $15.00 fee for a family of two persons or more.
