The mock ups for the
official 2009 Plains Conference T shirts are in! This year’s
design features the artwork of award winning Cheyenne-Arapaho
artist Gordon Yellowman. Gordon has been a juried artist in
the Red Earth Art Festival since 1994 and was named Red Earth
Master Artist in 2001. Gordon works in a number of media including
acrylics, technical illustration pens, prism colors, and watercolors.
We are fortunate, proud and honored to feature Gordon’s
work as this year’s conference logo and t shirt and
greatly appreciate his generosity.
The shirts are 100% cotton, indigo blue and are available
in both short and long sleeve. Prices are $15.00 for short
sleeve and $22.50 for long sleeve (XXL is $1.00 more). T shirts
may be purchased from the registration table at the conference,
but frankly, we expect them to sell out. However, you can
order shirts online ahead of time by going to the online registration
page and ordering only the shirts. (All items on that page
may be purchased separately, so don’t worry, you won’t
pay for registration or anything else unless you add it to
your cart.) Buying your shirt prior to the conference guarantees

T-Shirts
We decided to do something different this
year than the usual conference logo featuring prehistoric
rock art. This is partly because, well…we don’t
have a lot of prehistoric rock art in Oklahoma, at least that
we felt was t-shirt-worthy!
What we do have is an abundance of very talented Native American
artists. So we decided to use a contemporary design showcasing
such an artist. We are very pleased (and very fortunate) to
offer the 2009 Plains Conference T-shirt featuring a beautiful
design by Cheyenne-Arapaho artist, Gordon Yellowman. Many
in our community know Gordon and have had the pleasure of
working with him on NAGPRA projects related to the Cheyenne-Arapaho.
We are very grateful for Gordon’s generosity in contributing
his art for use on our conference shirts.
