The recent popularity of electronic mail (e-mail) has provided college faculty with a powerful tool to support their classroom activities. Using e-mail, it is now possible to make announcements/reminders about upcoming class events, distribute handouts, and forward sample exams and study guides to all students enrolled in a course. Furthermore, if the instructor has forgotten to relate an item of information during a classroom session it can be e-mailed at any time. For e-mail to work effectively as a communication tool there must exist a simple way of obtaining and then contacting each student's e-mail account. The simplest way of doing so is to use a listserver program. The authors will discuss how to set up a listserver on the Macintosh platform using the Macjordomo freeware program. Additionally, information will be presented on how to establish one's own e-mail server using the Eudora Internet Mail Server (EIMS) program. Information will also be given on how to format files for bulk e-mailing to users on differing computer platforms.
