G. L. Stebbins is widely regarded as the foremost plant evolutionary biologist of this century. In addition to being one of the four major figures in forging the evolutionary synthesis, he has influenced prevailing thought on many aspects of plant evolution and on the origin and radiation of the angiosperms. The speakers in this symposium will discuss new data, methods of data analysis and theory from the perspective of Stebbinsian views on the topics of species and speciation, polyploidy, hybridization and the origin and diversification of the angiosperms. The speakers will present their visions of research necessary into next millennium to answer longstanding questions in plant evolution and phylogeny.
