This course willl examine the current status of microbial diversity by
giving an updated review of the microbial world and the function, distribution,
and physiology of different microbial groups.
Prerequisite:
MBIO 3813 and 3812, or permission.

We will combine the life sciences and the humanities by discussing the uses of plants by people. We will learn about the origins of agriculture and discuss how modern humans are using plant resources. Classes will be combination of lecture and hands-on activities. We will taste exotic foods, debate the usefulness of herbal remedies, and delve into the world of fermentation.
Prerequisite: Intro to Biology, BOT 1005, ZOO 1005, BOT 1114, or ZOO 1114
