pollen wall composition

Concerning the inner exine layer (endexine) of the pollen grain, is there any sure evidence that
it ALWAYS contains polysaccharides? Or, it depends on the species?
I have got only one reference (from Knox R.B. in 'Embriology of Angiosperms', Springer, 1984).
Anyone could learn more on this?
