INTERDISCIPLINARY MASTER OF ARTS DEGREE
WITH AN EMPHASIS IN
INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

Admission Requirements

  • Provisional Admission: Provisional Admission provides the Advanced Programs applicant with an opportunity to enroll in a limited number of credit hours while completing the application process (e.g., submitting official transcripts).  The Provisional Graduate Student must limit their enrollment to nine credit hours and is neither guaranteed nor promised admission to a graduate degree program at the University of Oklahoma. Provisional Admission is granted for 120 days, but may be extended by request to the Graduate College Dean.
  • Full Admission: (GPA 3.00 or higher) Student admitted in full standing to a degree program.
  • Conditional Low Grade Admission: (GPA 2.75 to 2.99) Student is conditionally admitted to a degree program with low grades, and will be monitored during their first 12 credit hours of letter-graded coursework.  The GPA earned on the first 12 credit hours of letter-graded coursework must be at least 3.00.  NO grades of D, F, or U will be permitted during the conditional admission period.  Students who earn an excessive number of “I” or “W” during the period of conditional admission may be subject to disenrollment.
  • Probationary Admission: (GPA 2.50to 2.74) For applicants with a GPA between 2.50-2.74 on the last sixty hours from an earned baccalaureate degree. Once the student successfully completes the 6 hours with grades of B or better, the student will be granted conditional admission, can apply the 6 credit hours to their International Relations Program.
  • Students may not apply any coursework taken prior to successful completion of the applicant’s process toward a degree at the University of Oklahoma, with the exception of up to 9 hours of OU coursework taken while probationary admitted.

  • Denied: (GPA 2.49 or Lower) Applicants who do not meet the Alternative Admission requirements outlined below will be denied admission to the International Relations Program.
  • Alternative Admission: (GPA 2.25 to 2.49) For applicants with a GPA between 2.25-2.49 on the last sixty hours from an earned baccalaureate degree or less than a 3.00 grade point average on at least 12 hours of graduate level coursework may be considered for alternative admission provided at least three years have elapsed since awarding of the applicant’s baccalaureate degreeThe student must meet the specified criteria.
  • Students may not apply any coursework taken prior to successful completion of the applicant’s process toward a degree at the University of Oklahoma, with the exception of up to 9 hours of OU coursework taken while probationary admitted. Once the alternative admission criteria have been met, the student will be granted conditional low grade admission.
