***NOTICE EFFECTIVE SPRING 2007***

The International Relations Program will implement "new" comprehensive examination questions beginning in SPRING 2007.

An effort will be made to align the specific examination questions for each student with the core courses they completed. Therefore, it would be a good idea to keep the books for all core courses, as they may be needed to answer your comprehensive examination questions.

 

INTERDISCIPLINARY MASTER OF ARTS DEGREE
WITH AN EMPHASIS IN
INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

COMPREHENSIVE EXAMINATION

The comprehensive examination is a requirement for the Interdisciplinary Master of Arts degree with an emphasis in International Relations. The examination is a 30-day take home exam. The results of the examination are only valid for two consecutive years from the date of completion.
AVAILABLE DATES TO BEGIN EXAM
FALL September 1 - October 15
SPRING January 15 - March 1
SUMMER June 1

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE COMPREHENSIVE EXAMINATION

  • Must be enrolled in at least 2 credit hours during the semester the examination will be taken
  • Must have completed 75% of the coursework listed on the Admission to Candidacy form (24 credit hours)
  • Must have completed ALL required courses (with the exception of the CDR's). (Grades of "I" do not count as completed.) HOWEVER , the research CDR must be complete
***ENROLL EARLY FOR THE SEMESTER YOU TAKE YOUR COMPS***
The International Relations office will notify you via e-mail, which 3 questions you must answer for the your comprehensive examination. Each answer must be at least 2500-3000 words (10-12 pages). A minimum of 5 references must also be included for each question. The style to the answers must be in APA or Chicago style and must be consistent throughout. You will have 30 days to complete the examination starting from the date of receipt of the notification.
You must receive a grade of satisfactory on all three questions to receive a grade of satisfactory on the examination. If you receive an UNSATISFACTORY evaluation on one question, you will be retested on a different question from the same sub-discipline. If you receive an UNSATISFACTORY evaluation on two or more questions, you must retake an entirely new examination. The examination may not be taken a third time.
To ensure a timely receipt of your questions, please contact our office two weeks prior to your requested date of examination.
