Protein Production Core Facility
The OU Protein Production Core Facility (PPC) facilitates the expression and purification of proteins in sufficient quantity and purity for X-ray structure determination. The PPC currently offers two main types of cell expression hosts; Escherichia coli and insect. And intends to include yeast expression systems by Spring 2014. Currently, the core facility is equipped with an AKTA pure M1 FPLC system that can run up to 5 columns in parallel, an Avestin C3 emulsiflex cell homogenizer and a cell culture suite. In addition, the PPC is furnished with all the standard laboratory equipment like shaker/incubators, an Avanti J-26S centrifuge and an Implen UV-vis spectrophotometer to expedite scale up of protein production and purification.
Services range from providing access to instrumentation to full determination of protein expression and purification profiles to production of mg quantities of protein meeting purity standards for structure determination. The PPC facility is supported by the OU Office of the Vice President for Research and a grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences of the National Institutes of Health Award No.P20GM103640.
