Instructor and Academic Advisor
Teaching and Advising
I have been teaching in the Department of Classics and Letters, first as a graduate assistant and then as an instructor, for almost thirty years. In 2002 I became a Faculty Advisor, advising students in both majors. As an instructor, I have taught Latin at the beginning and intermediate levels as well as the Latin Teaching Methodology course. I currently represent the Department as a member of the Education Professions Division in the College of Education. For many years I have worked with new Latin teachers by serving as the higher education mentor on their First Year Residency Committees.
I also work with Latin teachers throughout the state by organizing OU Classics Day an annual event that brings between four and five hundred middle and high school Latin students to campus every year.
After teaching Medical Terminology in the classroom for many years, I developed this course as an online class and now teach it every semester online. Women’s history is an interest of mine and several times a year I teach Women in Ancient Greece. In my capacity as an advisor I represent the Department on the College or Arts and Sciences Advisory Council on Academic Advising (CASACAA). I am a committee member for the Major Minors Fair and participate in both it and Sooner Saturday.
I did my undergraduate work in History at the University of Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada and at the University of Oklahoma. In 1983 I completed a Master's degree in Classics at the University of Oklahoma. I have taught Latin at both the middle and high school level. My husband Dan and I enjoy traveling and spend a lot of time each year in Canada where I was born and where it is much cooler in the summer. I have a son Cole who is a student at the University of Oklahoma majoring in Classics and English. For twenty-five years I have been very involved in buying and selling antiques and I started an eBay business twelve years ago. I like to read mystery novels and have just started to knit again after a very long hiatus. I also like to garden and wish I had more time to work at this.
