Who is the advisor, and how do I get in touch with her?

The advisor is Kathy Martin and you can contact her via telephone (405-325-7710), email (kmartin@ou.edu), or stop by her office in Burton Hall, room 110.

I received an exclamation point when I tried to enroll. What does that mean?

Click on either button in the enrollment screen to see why you are getting a stop. You will be told exactly why you cannot enroll, and you will either need to take care of the problem, or you will need to drop that class. Common holds include: not meeting prerequisites, failure to get advised, the class is full, you have a hold at the bursar, etc.

The class I want to get into is full. What do I do?

The best thing to do is to contact the instructor and see if they will let you in. Some professors prefer students to come to class the first day and speak with them; otherwise you should email the professor, explain why you can’t enroll normally, and ask for special permission.

I want to get into a non_COMM class but I'm getting a stop. What should I do?

Contact the instructor or that department to receive special permission to enroll in class. The COMM advisor can only give permission for COMM courses.

When will advising start?

Advising for summer and fall semesters starts in March. Advising for spring semester begins in early October.

How will I know it’s time to sign up for advising?

The advisor will send an email to your OU email account letting you know you can sign up for advising. You’ll usually be able to start signing up a few weeks prior to the start of the advising periods (i.e. end of Sep and Feb).

How do I make an advising appointment so my enrollment flag can be lifted?

You must come by the advising office in Burton Hall, room 110 and sign up for an appointment in the book on the table outside the door. You cannot email or call to make an appointment.

How do I make an appointment to discuss general questions with the advisor (i.e. items not related to enrolling or lifting my enrollment flag)?

If you want to talk with the advisor outside the heavy advising periods (March to mid-April and October to mid-November), then you can call, email, or stop by the advising office to discuss your problem or make an appointment.

Does the advisor have walk-in hours?

The advisor takes walk-ins from 9-11 and 2-4 each day, except during the heavy advising periods (March-May and October-December). During this time it’s easier to email or call the advisor with questions, as there may be no walk-in times.

I missed my advising appointment. What can I do?

Call or email the advisor to let her know you will be unable to make your appointment. Secondly, go back to Burton Hall, room 110, and sign up for another appointment.
