Carefully read the draft of the essay you have been given. Answer the following questions by providing as much helpful detail as you can.


1. How effective is the introduction in gaining your interest and attention? Why?

2. Are the promises of the introduction fulfilled by the end of the story? Why or why not?


3. How effective is the conclusion in providing a sense of completion? Why?

4. What is the dominant impression conveyed by the story? List the words and phrases that support this impression.

5. Do you detect any inconsistencies in the narrative? List the words and phrases that seem inconsistent.

6. On the back of this sheet, give the writer one suggestion for improvement. Indicate areas that would benefit from more vivid description, better time sequencing, or added conflict/tension.
