Steven Sexton

Foundation Fellow 2006-2009

 

Mr. Sexton earned his A.S. at Haskell Indian Nations University, his B.A. magna cum laude in English at the University of New Mexico, and his M.A. in English at the University of Oklahoma May of 2006.

Mr. Sexton has taught Freshman Composition at the University of Oklahoma for the last three years. Two of those years, he has taught in a computer-mediated classroom where he constantly searches for ways use the available technology to help his students develop their writing skills. His primary focus in Native American literature; more particularly, Mr. Sexton is interested in contributing to the development of a Native American literary theory. He has presented scholarly papers as well as original poetry at various conferences as both an undergraduate and graduate student. Mr. Sexton has several poems published in various publications around the country and has a forthcoming publication of an essay on the late Native writer and scholar Louis Owens’s book Other Destinies.

Mr. Sexton’s other academic interests includes issues in C/R/L. He studies the concept of rhetorical sovereignty and explores how studies in C/R/L can contribute to Native American literary studies. His most recent interest is in Trans-Atlantic studies.
