Ph.D. Program Area of Concentration

At the time of application, each Ph.D. student should declare a Primary Area of Concentration from the following:

The American Studies, Gender Studies, Later English and Anglophone Studies, Medieval and Early English Studies, Native American Studies, and Theory and Media areas lead to a Ph.D. with an emphasis in Literary and Cultural Studies. The Composition, Rhetoric and Literacy Area leads to a Ph.D. with an emphasis in Composition, Rhetoric, and Literacy.

A Ph.D. student will have one opportunity to change his or her Area of Concentration on his or her own, after the start of the first semester and before the Advisory Conference. The student is responsible for informing the Graduate Office of the change.
