The University of Oklahoma's Bizzell Library mixes Prairie Gothic architecture with the recently opened, state-of-the-art Peggy V. Helmerich Collaborative Learning Center (HCLC). This living laboratory for new ideas received an overwhelming response from the university community, drawn by a dazzling combination of interactive technologies, collaborative workplaces, and information and data centers.

The HCLC boasts the best available information technology, from the 117-inch Prysm Wall to a high-tech collaborative classroom with an instructor’s station and 30 laptops for students. Nearby is the Digital Scholarship Laboratory, which enables faculty and graduate students to leverage the latest educational technology into inspiration for interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary exchange.
Also available are digital studios for creating audiovisual products that can be edited on site. Eight group study rooms and open study areas with varying furniture configurations foster collaboration and make scholarship into a community endeavor. The same can be said of the Bookmark Café, which features opaque wall panels where ideas can be drawn out and shared. Human expertise is the other secret ingredient in the HCLC’s success, furthered by a centralized service point where students and faculty can seek help from a staff of library and technology professionals.
