In addition to numerous articles, Professor Catherine
E. Kelly is the author of the award winning book, In
the New England Fashion: Reshaping Women's Lives in
the Nineteenth Century, and has just co-edited
a collection of essays, Reading Women: Literacy,
Authorship, and Culture in the Atlantic World, 1500-1800.
She is currently finishing a book on visual culture
in the early American republic, for which she has received
support from the American Antiquarian Society, the Historical
Society of Pennsylvania, the Library Company of Philadelphia,
Winterthur Museum and Library, and the McNeil Center
for Early American Studies at the University of Pennsylvania.
Starting in 2009, she will edit Common-place
(http://www.common-place.org),
an online magazine devoted to early American history
and culture. Professor Kelly regularly teaches the United
States Survey as well as a variety of courses focusing
on late eighteenth and early nineteenth-century American
history. She received her Ph.D. from the University
of Rochester.
