Catharine Franklin

Catharine Franklin received her B.A. in English Literature and American Studies from the City College of New York in 2003, and her M.A in History from the University of Oklahoma in 2005.  Under the direction of Prof. Gary Clayton Anderson, she is completing a dissertation on the army officer corps and federal Indian policy in the nineteenth century.  Her work focuses on the interaction between senior army leaders, civilian authorities, and Plains Indians people from Texas to Montana.  In October 2007, she organized a panel for the annual WHA conference that focused on American and Canadian "agents of empire" among northern native people.  Ms. Franklin was a Hudson Fellow from 2003-2007.  She was a fellow at the 2008 US Military Academy summer seminar in military history, and most recently received a nationally-competitive dissertation fellowship from the US Army Center of Military History.
