Stephen A. Martin received a B.A. in 2003 and an M.A. in American History in 2004 from Western Illinois University.  He completed coursework and comprehensive exams in 2007 and is currently researching a dissertation tentatively titled, “Native Diaspora: Shawnee and Delaware Communities in the Mississippi Valley, 1779-1825.”  He has received grants to support his research from the Newberry Library, the Missouri State Archives, and the Illinois State Historical Society.  He has taught an independent section of the U.S. Survey (pre 1865) and in December 2008 will offer a section of Introduction to American Indian History.
