Larry Mastroni received his B.A. in history from Sacred Heart University in 1992 and his M.A. in history from the University of Connecticut in 2003.  Within the field of environmental history, he has presented papers about the human/animal relationship at the Mid-Atlantic Popular Culture/American Cultural Association, Phi Alpha Theta, Northern Great Plains History Conference, Film and History Conference, and The Society for Literature, Science, and the Arts.   He has published two book reviews in History: Review of New Books and two film reviews in Film and History.  He is currently ABD and working on his dissertation,  “The United States Bureau of Biological Survey: Science and Politics in Transition.”  The dissertation examines the thought of Biological Survey members within the context of the emergence of ecological science while also exploring the Survey’s paradoxical policies of, on the one hand, advocating wildlife conservation, yet on the other hand, carrying out controversial predator control campaigns.  From the University of Oklahoma, he has received the Hudson and Morgan Fellowships and also received a research travel grant from the University of Wyoming’s American Heritage Center.  He has taught a section of History 3493, American Environmental History, and is preparing to teach the second half of the United States History Survey.
