Paul McKenzie-Jones received his B.A. (Hons) in American Studies in 2004 from Liverpool John Moores University, England and his M.Phil in American Studies from the University of Glasgow, Scotland in 2005. He received his M.A. in History from the University of Oklahoma in 2006. His M.Phil focused on the evolution of Native American activism during the twentieth century and his M.A focused on the social, cultural, and political influences of Clyde Warrior, founding member of the National Indian Youth Council. While working on his M.A., he gave three conference papers based on his research, including one at the Western History Association. He is now preparing for comprehensive exams and will then work on a dissertation delving further into the influences that shaped Clyde Warrior and Warrior’s subsequent influence on the shift from Native American activism to militancy that marked the late 1960s and early 1970s. Since 2006 Mr. McKenzie-Jones has taught an Intersession class titled “More Than Fancy Dancing: The History of Powwow Culture” through the Native American Studies department and in the spring of 2009 will be offering an NAS course titled “Twentieth Century American Indian Activism.” |
