Matthew Allen Pearce
Matthew Allen Pearce received his B.A. in History from Adams State College in 2007 and is now at work on his M.A. in the field of Environmental History.  He is working with Dr. Donald J. Pisani on a project tentatively entitled “Discontent on the Range: The Great Land Grab of 1947.” The thesis examines the conflict between an aggressive group of western ranchers and the US Forest Service over the role of livestock grazing on rangelands within the National Forests.  The project draws from a variety of primary sources from the Western History and Conservation Collections at the Denver Public Library in Colorado and from the American Heritage Center in Laramie, Wyoming.  He has presented work at the annual Phi Alpha Theta Conference.  Once his M.A. is completed, he hopes to build on this project while pursuing a Ph.D. in Environmental History.   Matt Pearce
