Before applicants can be admitted to full graduate standing in the Department of Human Relations, they must satisfy the general admission requirements of the Graduate College of the University of Oklahoma. Application to the Department of Human Relations for main campus and Tulsa students involves the following:

Candidates selecting this option must include in their program the following courses: Introduction to Graduate Studies in Human Relations (HR 5093), Theoretical Foundations of Human Relations (HR 5003), Current Problems in Human Relations (HR 5013), Research in Human Relations (HR 5023), and six hours of Internship in Human Relations (HR 5200). A comprehensive examination also is required of all candidates prior to completion of the degree. Thesis Option. Before enrolling in a course designated for a specific emphasis students must have completed a formal advisory conference. Areas of EmphasisStudents may design a program of studies in an area of emphasis such as organizational development and human resource management; women's studies, international and multicultural human relations; marriage and family, professional, and/or chemical dependency counseling. The option to develop an area of emphasis is designed to enable students to meet some of the academic requirements for certification for alcohol and drug counselors (CADC), and licensure for Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Other emphases may be developed to permit a coordinated program with a specific focus to meet individual goals within the general Human Relations curriculum. Comprehensive ExaminationEvery non-thesis Human Relations major must successfully complete a written comprehensive examination. Degree candidates must be enrolled in two graduate hours of coursework at the University of Oklahoma during the semester in which they complete the comprehensive examination. Students should schedule their exams by contacting their advisor and the Human Relations Office within the first two weeks of the semester in which they plan to graduate. Department of
