Dr. Johnson is a tenure-track assistant professor in Human Relations at the University of Oklahoma (Tulsa campus). His primary scholarly interests include the interface of spirituality and psychology/psychotherapy, group therapy, and Humanistic-Existential-Transpersonal approaches to counseling, and social justice. He joined the faculty in August 2006.
 
Dr. Johnson received his doctorate in counseling psychology from Pennsylvania State University. His dissertation explored how therapists approach, assess, and intervene with religious and spiritual problems in psychotherapy. He completed a predoctoral internship in professional psychology at the Vanderbilt University Consortium in 2002-2003. He holds a Master of Arts degree in school psychology from Trinity University and completed a full-time internship with the San Antonio Independent School District. He completed his undergraduate degree in psychology at Texas A&M University.
 
Prior to working at the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Johnson worked for three years as a staff psychologist in Iowa State University’s counseling center. In this position, his duties included general psychotherapy and counseling to undergraduate and graduate students, supervision/training of graduate students in psychology, adjunct teaching and research with the psychology department, and some administrative duties. He coordinated the group counseling and the LD/ADHD programs for two years. His clinical work focused on religious/spiritual, existential, and adjustment issues as well as many Axis I and II disorders commonly seen in university counseling centers (e.g., depression, anxiety, suicidality, personality disorders, PTSD, etc.).
