Department of the History of Science

OU is one of a small number of universities with a department devoted to studying the history of science and its cultural influences.

We offer a diverse array of courses, and invite undergraduate and graduate students from any discipline to join us as we explore the development of scientific ideas within their social contexts, from antiquity to the modern era.

Visit the new undergraduate website here.

For a schedule of history of science events, see our events blog. Please join us for the history of science colloquium series. These weekly colloquia are usually held each Friday afternoon in the Harlow Room of the History of Science Collections, on the 5th floor of Bizzell Library, beginning at 3:30 p.m. (directions). Download a complete semester schedule (pdf). For more information or accommodation on the basis of disability, call 325-2741.
