Dear Prospective Graduate Student:
Thank you very much for your interest in our graduate programs in Modern Languages,
Literatures, and Linguistics. I am very pleased to enclose with this letter
information detailing the programs we offer, specifically the Masters
degrees in French, German and Spanish and the Doctoral degrees in Spanish and
French. Enclosed is a general application.
Faculty members in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics
hold doctorates from many outstanding universities in the United States and
Europe. Our professors are either natives of the country whose language, literature,
and culture they teach or have had broad professional and personal experience
in those countries. They put a great deal of emphasis on their teaching duties
as well as on their research scholarship, and offer graduate courses on a variety
of topics. Many of our graduates now hold academic and administrative positions
in colleges and universities in the United States; others have found that their
degrees qualify them for positions in international business and industry.
The department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics offers graduate
teaching assistantships to qualified applicants. These assistantships give
graduate students an opportunity to acquire teaching experience while they help
to defray some of the expense of graduate study. If you are interested in applying
for one of these positions, please complete the enclosed application form and
return it to the department together with three letters of recommendation.
Thank you again for your interest in our department and the University of Oklahoma.
I hope that you will be able to study with us and, if you have any questions
or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Joseph M. Sullivan, Ph.D.
