Graduate Programs

The Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Linguistics offers graduate courses leading to the degrees of Master of Arts in French, German and Spanish; and the Doctor of Philosophy in French or Spanish. Advanced courses and seminars are offered in all the major fields and periods of French, German, Spanish and Spanish-American literature.

M.A. degrees in French, German, and Spanish are offered in both a thesis and a non-thesis program. The non-thesis program requires 32 hours of graduate course work plus a final comprehensive exam. The thesis program requires 26 hours of graduate course work plus a four hour thesis and a final comprehensive exam.

A dual MA/MBA with a major in French, German, or Spanish is designed to provide future business professionals with the language and cultural skills needed to function effectively in international business. The dual program is equivalent to separate degrees in the respective departments; however, students may share 9 hours of graduate credit between the two programs making the total number of graduate hours between 57 and 68. Application must be made to each program separately.

The Doctor of Philosophy is offered in French or Spanish.
