Profile

Dr. Horner earned her Ph.D. in French and Francophone Literature & Linguistics at the University of Tennessee. She joined MLLL in 2023 as a Lecturer and French Language Program Coordinator. Prior to teaching at OU, Dr. Horner was a Visiting Assistant Professor of French at Kansas State University.

Dr. Horner is interested in interdisciplinary research. She recently took a course with Harvard Medical School in Applied Psychology in order to better understand the relationship between postcolonial trauma narratives and genetic memory. Her monograph in progress analyzes intangible cultural heritage in Algeria to demonstrate that theories of genetic memory intuitively proposed by writers like Faïza Guène are now affirmed by the recent scientific research of Gabor Maté and David Sinclair

In the classroom, Dr. Horner enjoys working with students on activities that strengthen their linguistic proficiency, critical thinking, and cultural awareness. She is always excited to celebrate her students’ progress every step of the way, so get ready for fun classes where you will enjoy macarons, delicious chocolate croissants, and French Bingo.
