CAREERS
Political Science is an excellent program of study for those interested in a career in political science as a profession, government or public service at federal or state and local levels, law enforcement, or law. It is also useful for those oriented toward any career that requires a college degree with a liberal arts emphasis.
Opportunities exist in professional research organizations, on the staffs of congressional committees and state legislatures, and in governmental agencies. Many positions require advanced degrees. Academic positions in colleges and universities usually require the completion of a doctoral degree. Teachers in social studies usually must complete the appropriate certification requirements required for secondary education.
A useful guide for undergraduates, entitled Careers and the Study of Political Science, published by the American Political Science Association, is available from Kerry Ashford in 229 Dale Hall Tower.
