Robert Dean Bass Memorial Scholarships
Number given: 4–10—Amount: $1,000-$3,000
Application deadline: March 24

The Department of Political Science is responsible for the administration of the College of Arts and Sciences Robert Dean Bass Memorial Scholarship Program. The Bass scholarships are merit scholarships for which undergraduate students in Economics and Political Science are eligible. Students must have a minimum 3.65 GPA, at least 40 hours completed at OU, and no more than 90 completed hours. A.R. "Bert" Larason Public Service Scholarships
Number given: 1-2—Amount: Minimum $1,200, based on financial need
Application deadline: February 1

Applicants must have achieved junior or senior status and will be classified as a senior the following academic year for which the scholarship award will apply.  Applicants must have a major course of study in Social Work, Political Science or History and show high academic achievement and demonstrate leadership ability.  In addition, applicants must have earned a GPA of 3.25 or above, demonstrate a plan for use of his/her education in a public service career, and show proficiency in written and oral communication.  Applicants must have financial need.  An essay and interview are required.  Please refer to the scholarship application instructions for information on the completion and submission of the application materials.

Leadership Scholars
75 Participants, Scholarships awarded based on financial need—Amount: Minimum $1,500
Application deadline: February 1

The Leadership Scholars Program recognizes undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences who have a meritorious record of academic achievement by earning a GPA of 3.50 or above and demonstrating university or community service.  The program is made up of 75 participants, with 20 chosen annually from the incoming sophomore class.  Juniors and Seniors may remain in the program if they earn the number of points required.  New juniors and seniors will be selected as needed.  Participants will attend monthly meetings to discuss leadership training, campus resources, graduate programs, career opportunities and current issues, with special guest speakers and interact with mentors.  Applicants who are selected for the Leadership Scholars Program with a demonstrated financial need may be awarded a scholarship.  An essay and interview are required.  Please refer to the scholarship application instructions for information on the completion and submission of the application materials.

Corrine Price Scholarships
Number given: Multiple Recipients—Amount: Minimum $1,200, based on financial need
Application deadline: February 1

Applicants must be full-time undergraduate or graduate students who have a major in the College of Arts and Sciences.  In addition, applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or above and show financial need.  If applying for both the Sturgis and Price scholarships, only one application packet is needed.  Please check both scholarships on the application.  Current recipients may reapply.  An essay is required.  Please refer to the scholarship application instructions for information on the completion and submission of the application materials.

Jon R. Withrow Scholarships
Number given: 1-5—Amount: Minimum $1,200, based on financial need

Application deadline: February 1

Applicants must be full-time undergraduate students, who have a GPA of 3.0 or above, and are pursuing a major in the College of Arts and Sciences.  In addition, applicants must be graduates of an Oklahoma high school in a town of less than 15,000 residents, with first preference given to Seminole County.  Current recipients may reapply.  An essay and interview are required.  Please refer to the scholarship application instructions for information on the completion and submission of the application materials.

Alvin Terrell Dixon Memorial Scholarships 
Number given: 1-6—Amount: Minimum $1,200, based on financial need
Application deadline: February 1

Applicants must be full-time undergraduate students who are older than the traditional undergraduate student.  Preference is given to students returning to college who have been in the work force and who realized it would benefit them to return to college to receive a degree.   Applicants must have earned a GPA of 3.25 or above and show financial need.  Current recipients may reapply.  An essay and interview are required.  Please refer to the scholarship application instructions for information on the completion and submission of the application materials.

Jack Roe Denton Memorial Scholarships 
Number given: 1-3—Amount: Minimum $1,200, based on financial need  

Application deadline: February 1

Applicants must be male and have earned fewer than 90 hours (sophomores or juniors) and have a GPA of 3.50 or above.  In addition, applicants must show financial need and be engaged in outside employment in order to attend and afford college.  A dated letter from the employer, stating the number of hours worked per week is required with the application.  Preference will be given to a student from New York State or the East, but not mandatory.  Current recipients may reapply.  An essay and interview are required.  Please refer to the scholarship application instructions for information on the completion and submission of the application materials.

Ruby Brakebill Scholarships 
Number given: 1-3—Amount: Minimum $1,000, based on financial need

Applicants must be full-time undergraduate or graduate students, have a GPA of 3.50 or above and show financial need.  Applicants must also show demonstrated leadership and have a record of community service work.  An essay and interview are required.  Please refer to the scholarship application instructions for information on the completion and submission of the application materials.

Mary, Nell and Louise Perkinson Endowed Memorial Scholarships
Number given: 1–6—Amount: Minimum $1,200, based on financial need

Application deadline: February 1

Applicants must be full-time Native American students and be on the roll of a recognized Native American tribe.  A copy of the CDIB card is required.  Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence, leadership ability and potential for significant contribution to the American Indian community.  In addition, applicants must have completed between 60 and 90 hours (junior standing), have a GPA of 3.25 or above and show financial need.  An essay and interview are required.  Please refer to the scholarship application instructions for information on the completion and submission of the application materials.

Herbert A. and Lela Mitchell Berlin Scholarships
Number given: 1–5—Amount: Minimum $1,200, based on financial need

Application deadline: February 1

Applicants must be full-time undergraduate students in the following areas of study:  Mathematics; Economics; Laboratory Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany/Micro., Social Sciences with a lab component); or Foreign Languages.  Applicants should have earned fewer than 90 hours (sophomore, junior class), have a GPA of 3.25 or above and show financial need.  Current recipients may reapply.  An essay and interview are required.  Please refer to the scholarship application instructions for information on the completion and submission of the application materials.

Charles A. & Janice Pullin Drake Scholarships

Carl Albert Award 
Number given: 1—Amount: $2,500

Selection is based on the Phi Beta Kappa senior list. An interview and essay are required.

J. J. Stevens Scholarship
Number given: 1—Amount: Minimum $1,000, based on merit

Application deadline: February 1

Applicants must be an incoming freshman, currently graduating from high school, and be legal residents of Tarrant County, Texas or the north Texas area.  Applicant’s major course of study must be in the College of Arts and Sciences.  In addition, applicants must be ranked in the top 25% of their high school graduating class, have a high school grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and must have compiled an exceptional record of high school extracurricular activities, including community service and demonstrated leadership abilities.

Additional Requirements:  Two letters of recommendation and a 2-page double-spaced essay answering the following question:  Explain how your high school education (e.g., teachers, courses, books you have read, research or volunteer experiences) has helped you to grow intellectually.  How do you expect your college experience to differ from high school?  Please be as specific as possible.  Please submit the material to Susan Bayliss at: College of Arts and Sciences, the University of Oklahoma, 633 Elm St., Norman, OK  73019-3108.

Alice Allen Everett Scholarship
Number given: 1—Amount: Minimum $1,000, based on merit

Application deadline: February 1

Applicants must be incoming freshmen, currently graduating from an Oklahoma high school in 2008.  Applicants must be on the roll of a recognized Native American tribe and have verified their status through the office of admissions.   Applicants must have also designated a course of study in the College of Arts and Sciences and have an outstanding high school academic record reflected in GPA of 3.5 or above and standardized test scores, such as SAT or ACT.  Applicants’ choice of major course work must demonstrate their intention to pursue graduate study, with preference given to students going into the medical field.

Additional Requirement:  Two letters of recommendation, a copy of the CDIB card, and a 2-page double-spaced essay answering the following question:  Explain how your high school education (e.g., teachers, courses, books you have read, research or volunteer experiences) has helped you to grow intellectually.  How do you expect your college experience to differ from high school?  Please be as specific as possible.  Please submit the material to Susan Bayliss at: College of Arts and Sciences, the University of Oklahoma, 633 Elm St., Norman, OK  73019-3109.

Woody and Penny Young/May Barrett Memorial Scholarship

Applicants must be citizens of the United States and be enrolled full-time as an undergraduate student in the College of Arts and Sciences, with a declared minor in Enterprise Studies.  In addition, applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or above and show financial need.  An essay and interview are required.  Please refer to the scholarship application instructions for information on the completion and submission of the application materials.

Marvin D. and Barbara L. Jirous Sonic Scholarship
