2006 EWING FELLOWS IN
WASHINGTON DC

Summer 2006

On Thursday, June 8, 2006, the 2006 Ewing Fellows met with Mr. Martin Gold, a partner in the law firm of Covington & Burling. Mr. Gold has a thirty year career of providing expert parliamentary, tactical, and strategic advice to the Republican Majority Leaders of the US Senate. He has served as floor manager for Senator Howard Baker (R.-TN) in the 1980s and for Senator Bill Frist (R.-TN) in the 2000s. In between those years, Mr Gold practiced law and worked as a legislative advocate for various corporate and private interests. Mr. Gold is an acknowledged expert on the inner workings of the Senate. He teaches at the University undergraduate and graduate level, and has authored several articles and books on the US Senate.
