The department has an exceptionally generous scholarship and award program. Last year, over $10,000 was awarded to undergraduate and graduate students for outstanding academic achievement. The research and writing of students at both undergraduate and graduate levels was rewarded. With the help of our donors, we are able to honor many students each year.
The department also coordinates the Robert Dean Bass Memorial Scholarship Program, which is a College of Arts and Sciences scholarship program which is among the most prestigious in the college and at the university. The scholarship, given for the first time in 1948, honors Lieutenant Robert Dean Bass, an OU student on the verge of graduation who lost his life in the last days of World War II. Exceptional students in political science and economics are recognized as Bass Scholars each year.
