Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Psychology at the University of Oklahoma. The tradition of psychology at OU is truly remarkable. The University of Oklahoma was founded barely ten years after Wilhelm Wundt established the first formal psychology laboratory, yet a psychology course appeared in the very first course catalogue published at OU in 1892, and psychology has been a vibrant part of this institution ever since.

Minors

Minors in Psychology

Students seeking a minor in psychology are required to complete 18 credit hours, nine of which must be lower-division and nine upper-division. Psychology 1113, is required and the remaining six lower-division hours are elective. All upper-level courses are eligible for completing the upper-division requirement, except those involving individual instruction or variable credit. (Course such as 3990 or 4990, Independent Study; 4910, Instructional Aide, or any topic taught under 4920, Current Topics in Psychology, are not acceptable courses for the minor.)

Minor Outside of Psychology

The minor is a secondary and optional area of interest for depth of study. It can be closely related to the major to serve as a support area, or it can be unrelated and simply an area of interest such as Sociology, History, English, Zoology, Foreign Language, etc. The department through which the minor is offered sets the requirements for the minor. Most minors at OU consists of about 18 hours of requirements, although this is variable. For requirements for specific minors, you can consult OU's General Catalog or the department of your minor. The minor is not a requirement but an option for interested students. If you want to earn a minor, you must declare the minor at the College of Arts and Sciences (PHSC 429) so it will be recognized on your degree.
