Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Psychology at the University of Oklahoma. The tradition of psychology at OU is truly remarkable. The University of Oklahoma was founded barely ten years after Wilhelm Wundt established the first formal psychology laboratory, yet a psychology course appeared in the very first course catalogue published at OU in 1892, and psychology has been a vibrant part of this institution ever since.

Letter from the Academic Advisor

Davetta Geimausaddle is the Academic Counselor for the Psychology Department, and advises all psychology majors unless special arrangements are made by the student to see a faculty advisor or LaRee Saunders, College of Arts and Sciences. The advisor's office is located in Dale Hall Tower, Room 705-A and her phone number is 325-4640. Appointments are appreciated, there are no available walk in times.Email address: davetta@ou.edu.

Each semester Davetta sends an email to all psychology majors reminding them when the next semester's pre-registration period begins, and requests appointments only for advisement. During the advising appointment, the academic counselor will review all the courses a student has completed, and all the requirements the student has yet to complete. The student and advisor work together to plan the next semester's curriculum.

All students should be familiar with their degree requirements. These requirements are printed on a check sheet that is available from the College of Arts and Science or the Psychology web site: Standard Psychology Major Checklist. The General Catalog of OU should also be used in conjunction with the check sheet for course descriptions and prerequisites, as well as a reference for general information about the University of Oklahoma. It is not the academic counselor's responsibility to choose classes for the student; rather, she serves to keep students advised of degree requirements and is available to help students with problems they may encounter in their college career (for example, explaining how to petition a grade, how to withdraw from classes, finding a tutor, etc.).

All Psychology majors must be advised prior to enrolling for each semester. If you are a Psychology major, please schedule an advising appointment with the departmental advisors. It is a good idea to contact the departmental advisors in September for Spring advising, and February for Summer and Fall advising. If you are a current student, please check your OU emails and Ozone/Desire to Learn page, Psychology Advising tab to learn about advising news. It is important to regularly check your emails so that you don't miss out on important news that pertains to your studies.
