Research in the Social Psychology Laboratory examines the role of individual
cognitive and emotional processes in self-perceptions, goal-setting, interpersonal
relationships, and adjustment to life stress. Laboratory activities involve
1) the development of instruments for the assessment of cognitive structures,
negative life experiences, and individual goals; 2) the development of
coding systems to evaluate narrative thought; and 3) processing and analysis
of the resulting quantitative data. Current projects emphasize the analysis
of existing data sets on adult adjustment to stressful life events, and
the relation between college student self-concept and achievement goals.
The laboratory provides adequate physical space, computer facilities,
and audio/visual equipment for individual assessment or small group interactions.
