Welcome to the Department of Psychology at the University of Oklahoma.
The tradition of psychology at OU is truly remarkable. The University
of Oklahoma was founded barely ten years after Wilhelm Wundt established
the first formal psychology laboratory, yet a psychology course
appeared in the very first course catalogue published at OU in 1892,
and psychology has been a vibrant part of this institution ever
since.
Today, our Department offers our students an exceptionally fine education
in psychology and is flexible enough to support a wide range of career
paths. Our undergraduate degree programs provide our students with the
opportunity to develop the type of broad and rich introduction to scientific
psychology that will support their immediate career needs or graduate
school aspirations. A recent survey of those completing our undergraduate
programs revealed that over 70% of our graduates were admitted to the
graduate training programs they desired. Our graduate programs are equally
distinctive. We offer doctoral training in a variety of specialty areas,
all of which are based on our national reputation for developing in our
graduates an exceptional foundation of methodological and quantitative
skills.
The field of psychology has a unique ability to capture the passionate
interest of those interested in the scientific investigation of the human
experience. If you are one of those people, all of us in the Department
of Psychology at the University of Oklahoma welcome you to join us in
that pursuit.
I urge you to explore our web page and discover the exciting programs
of psychology that are being offered in our Department. If you would like

Sincerely,
Jorge L. Mendoza, Professor and Chair
