The
University of Oklahoma's main campus is located in Norman, a university-oriented
residential community (population: 101,000). As a "University Community"
Norman has excellent schools, inexpensive housing (about half the
price of coastal cities), great shopping and abundant entertainment.
The University of Oklahoma itself offers great theater, first rate
musical and dance productions, and outstanding intercollegiate sports.
National recording and performing artists regularly appear at the
University's Lloyd Noble Arena. The University's Museum of Art,
the new Oklahoma Museum of Natural History (the largest of its kind
in the world associated with a university), and the History of Science
Collection add to the cultural richness of the campus. The climate
is delightful with short winters, beautiful falls, long springs,
and warm summers.
The area surrounding Norman is rolling country with many trees and horse
farms. In addition, Norman has a large recreational lake that provides
opportunities for virtually all
water sports. Oklahoma City (population: 500,000; 1 million in the
OKC metro area), which is also the state capital, is located approximately
20 minutes north of Norman by interstate. The city of Norman offers
the advantages of living in a medium-sized city with a small town
friendly atmosphere, while still being near a major metropolitan
area.
